10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Good ones! And thanks for that site. It brings up alot of good points.

"Among the most detestable villains in history, you could not find one worse than Moses. Here is an order, attributed to 'God' to butcher the boys, to massacre the mothers and to debauch and rape the daughters. I would not dare so dishonor my Creator's name by (attaching) it to this filthy book (the Bible)." -- Thomas Paine

The list is without merit and is obvious written by a God hater.  But what should we expect other than a perpetual state of ignorance from some nutjob like that.

Perhaps you'd better redefine "without merit" and "godhater" again Pat.

"without merit" does not further public acceptance of ones chosen superstition.

"godhater" does not subscribe to ones chosen deity.

or perhaps this is your way of not dealing with what should be troublesome issues perhaps?

Pat mindset:

Problem: I have a set of troublesome objections to my thesis to deal with.
Solution: They don't further my cause therefore I won't deal with them. They are written by "wrong people" for "the wrong reasons", point that out and ignore the issue. Problem solved.

Have you solved the issues in that list Pat? I think you believe you have.

It might satisfy you except for this.
While it might sound like a reasonable brushoff to you, it sounds like one more failure to deal with these questions by anyone else. It enforces the impression that you don't give answers because you don't have them. That's an impression that I am quite happy for you to continue.

Fundamentalists might have all the answers, but they almost all wonky and worthless answers (if they are of any interest).

Ask a Christian like Bullwinkle instead guys if you want a Christian answer, a lot more sweat and thought goes into a liberal Christians travel with Jesus.

*SIGH* I don't suppose you'd care to elaborate on WHY this post is supposedly so invalid Pat.

Personally I'd rather trust the word of some 'God hater' than a document telling me to hate just about everyone on earth who wasn't like me (like oh.... the bible!).

Neat quote, Tim. Shows how the devoutly religious have no problem with fibbing and stretching the truth.

Here's a thought... Creationists might want to use Auggie's quote there to prove some of their theories.

It's already typical of Creationist "evidence".

"We really have dinosaurs today, without any question. You just need the right weather conditions, as I see it, to get huge creatures. And in the ocean, of course, we have huge creatures....this is where the plesiosauruses seem to be today, and perhaps also this fire breathing dragon is still down there -- very rare, but occasionally there." -- Rev. Walter Lang - Founder, Bible-Science Association

Usually the Christians were admonished only to lie if it helped people to believe. I'm not sure if this lie had Gods sanction or not, as I can't see the use of it to the old feller.

In this case, it might have been a real lie, which no one could pick up at the time. There are plenty of similar in the bible like the nephalim, angels and devils which also have not been disproved, but because it's in Gods book, we don't seem to snigger at.

They're no more outrageous though than a guy blinking at you without a head.

are they Pat?

Excellent point, Tim. For millenia, humans thought that the world was flat and that the universe revolved around the Earth. You could safely tell somebody that you saw, say, a long-haired, bearded man named Jesus fly in the air, and people would believe you. Or, you could tell somebody that you saw a ship fall off the edge of the world, and they would believe you.

Now, we know that humans cannot fly without technology, and we know that we are but a mere, insignificant speck in the universe.

But, unfortunetly, the mythologists still believe that we are the center of the universe. Looking at Christianity's track record in regards to telling the truth, I believe I'll stick with my own eyes, common sense, and reason to figure out what's real and what's fantasy..

"The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church." -- Ferdinand Magellan

Yes true, Doc. Do people really get their heads around how insignificant the earth (basically our living place) is in the total scheme of things. The bible tells us that humans are the reason for the universe, and yet, given all that is in the universe that has absolutely no consequence to the earth, we are not even a side show. We are a speck in our galaxy, and our galaxy is but one of billions and our bible tells us that it is all here for us merely to enjoy at night.

I don't see it myself.

As you say, the bible hasn't really revealed any truths that couldnt be worked out by bronze age men themselves, and includes a lot of errors that bronze age men can be forgiven for thinking.

You have to bend your mind a long way to continue believing as the ancients did, especially given the powerful tools that we have now.... of course if you havent got a clue what they do or how, you probably dont understand any better than an ancient what they are telling you.

If ignorance is bliss as they say, there are sure a lot of blissful Christians out there.

What do you think will be the official response from the fundamentalist Christian sects when extra-terrestrial life is discovered? Not necessarily talking about little green men wanting to talk to our leaders.. Anything from sentient beings in another star system to microbial life around underwater thermal vents on Europa.

I'm curious as to what explanation fundamentalists have for non-Earthly life having the audacity to exist, unmentioned in the human bible.

It would be humorous to watch a fundamentalist tell a being from a much older, advanced species that the deity of fundamentalists put them in this universe so homo-sapiens could have dominion over them.

"Higher beings from outer space may not want to tell us the secrets of life, because we're not ready. But maybe they'll change their tune after a little torture." -- Jack Handy
